Our pastor, the Rev. Casey Collins is an Elder in the United Methodist Church serving New England for seventeen years. She came to Calvary in July, 2007 ready to take on a new and exciting ministry of worship, mission and service in downtown Lewiston. Previously Pastor Casey served on Peaks Island, Maine and before that was founding pastor of the Good Shepherd United Methodist Church in Gray, Maine, a new church start and the first successful “Lazarus” church in the New England United Methodist Church conference. Pastor Casey holds a Masters of Divinity from Bangor Theological Seminary, in Bangor, Maine, a Masters of Education from Antioch University in Yellow Springs, Ohio and an undergraduate degree in Speech Pathology and Audiology from Ithaca College in New York. Before her call to ministry, Casey was a social worker serving the elder population in Massachusetts and a social worker in rehabilitation for the Salvation Army in New York. Casey grew up in the Methodist Church but her high school, college and several years after, saw her exploring various faiths and denominations giving her an Ecumenical heart and respect for all religions and traditions before returning to the United Methodist Church. The United Methodist Church is in her blood. She is a third generation United Methodist pastor, her grandfather serving churches in Florida and New York and her father serving churches in Massachusetts and as pastor of the First Radio Parish Church of America for ten years. Says our pastor: “I am delighted to be in a church that does so much more than worship. Calvary United Methodist Church grows disciples, serving as Christ’s hands and feet through their active volunteer mission team, praise team and sharing in the community. What an exciting place to be.”
Our Music Director, Clyde Mitchell Thomas leads and plays for all of Calvary Church's musical activities and services. His love and enthusiasm for Christ and music are very evident in all he does. Mitch Thomas has been the music director for the Saturday afternoon service at the Auburn United Methodist Church (where he has also been the pianist and directed children's choirs for 18 years) and a long-time director of music-theatre productions at the denomination's Camp Mechuwana in Winthrop. For the past five years, Mitch has been the Director of Music at the New England Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church, held in Massachusetts. He also directs and performs in productions at Lewiston-Auburn's Community Little Theater; most recently as the male lead in the September, 2008 production of "Kiss Me Kate" for which he received top reviews, as well as producing and directing the December 2007 production of "A Christmas Carol: The Musical." In January, 2010, Mitch played the part of Larry, playing Scrooge in the Community Little Theater production of "Inspecting Carol". It was perfect part for him, a bit of overacting was called for and he was soooo funny! Amost enjoyable play! We are delighted to have Mitch's dynamic talents onboard. His passion for music fills the services with spirit often lifting people from their seats as they are inspired; surrounded by the joy his music ministry delivers. Thomas says: “I feel that congregational singing is so important in worship. Being at Calvary gives me opportunities to involve more people in music and to introduce new songs and arrangements week after week. With so much music and enthusiasm, I hope more people will come out at 10:30 on Sundays to share in the excitement that this congregation, its musicians and its pastor have been experiencing together.”
